Gold Ivy Wreath
4th–3rd century BC
This Hellenistic funerary wreath, crafted in gold alloy, is formed from delicate ivy leaves and slender tendrils arranged in a naturalistic circlet. Each leaf is carefully shaped and chased to show its veins, giving the piece an almost living appearance despite its ancient age.
Ivy was sacred to the God Dionysos, symbolizing vitality, protection, and the endurance of life beyond death. Such wreaths were worn by elite Hellenic tribes, such as the #Macedonians, in ritual, ceremony, and burial, marking both status and belief.
#Macedonia, #Greece.
