Was able to take a tour of The American Can Company Building in Eastport, ME. Erected in 1908 as a can manufacturing facility and was instrumental in the roll top can design used in tinned fish.
The building has since been left to rot while being listed on the National Historic Register. There is a 2" layer of pigeon seagull and rat shit mixed with seawater and feathers. Definitely do not recommend breathing deeply.
Anyone looking to go halfsies on restoration and opening an artisanal sardine company? Step 1 is build a coffer damn, pump out water and repair the 139 concrete piers after 113 years of erosion and a 26' tidal difference twice a day.
Fun fact the last sardine cannery in the USA closed in 2010.
