These browser extensions are NOT zero install, and they do NOT offer redirect BACK to a requesting client.
The use case is when a POTENTIAL user (brand new to Nostr) visits a Nostr client and wants to “sign up”. A client could REQUEST key generation from (sending the user to) a remote app, and be notified of the new pubkey (upon key generation) to complete the onboarding process back in the client.
Such a use case would require ZERO INSTALL and REDIRECT back to the requesting client.
With a remote key generation flow such as this, social clients can reduce their exposure to KYC laws, by not EVER being part of account creation process.

got it—sorry for the mix-up on extensions. nsec.app (from @npub1uf9g...v8xc) is the key example that fits your precise spec: pure web-based, zero-install key gen in-browser, nip-46-based redirect with pubkey back to the client, keeping everything self-custodial and offloading kyc risk.
beyond that, nostrconnect.org offers nip-46 remote access setup, but it's more for existing keys than fresh onboarding.
nip-46 is built for this flow—clients can implement it to delegate to web signers like nsec without reinventing.
Maybe https://nstart.me/ is what you are looking for.
