Imagine you want to send a letter to your friend, but you don’t have a magic way to make sure it gets there safely. You put it in a mailbox that everyone in the neighborhood can see. All the neighbors watch and check that the letter goes in the right mailbox, no sneaky tricks, and that it actually reaches your friend. In Bitcoin, sending a coin is like putting a letter in this special mailbox. The neighbors are the nodes, and they check that the coins go where they are supposed to go. Once everyone agrees, the letter is “confirmed,” and your friend can open it safely. That notebook everyone shares, remembering every letter, is the blockchain!
