U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Admiral Brad Cooper is currently visiting the Middle East, with stops in both Israel and Lebanon. According to a CENTCOM release, Admiral Cooper met in recent days with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Rodolphe Haykal, as well as senior military and civilian officials in Israel. The discussions focused on implementing the recently signed Israel-Lebanon framework agreement. It is also likely that CENTCOM’s role in the agreement’s deconfliction mechanism, including facilitating the eventual withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, was among the topics discussed.
