Thanks @Joel Walbert for the book recommendation. It is a good read. It does not look like it will explain the role of Zionism or what it is though. I had the understanding that it is a statist notion and something different from judaism? Any good books on that? @npub15dcc...g5zv

To understand political Zionism, one must understand Talmudic / Rabbinic Judaism. But yes, I can recommend a few books that might me more exactly what you are looking for (they also are sitting on my bookshelf). Let me track down the links.

Thanks. Currently I think I can summarize the Zion concept as the idea that Jews should have a land they can call their own, interpreted in modern times to be a nation state.
