This is obviously a deliberate design choice somebody made, the shadowban behavior is completely different from when a note is missing (in this case it actually shows a banner explaining that the note could not be found). If they just filtered the haram content through the cache server and didn’t have custom client side code to handle shadowbanning it would display the same placeholder with the note not found message. And regardless of the bad UX, I don’t see any explanation on the app itself or its AppStore page about the existence of said blacklist. I would love to be proven wrong but even if they were to update the app and make it more transparent about censored content, it could simply be a damage control move and not a genuine change of heart. Goodwill is a scarce resource and it’s a shame they have burned on dumb shit like this. I was really looking forward to the upcoming liquid glass UI.
