And it doesn't solve the problem of on and off ramps blocking transactions going to and from mixers. Until all NGO donors use Bitcoin and all their landlords and lawyers use Bitcoin, money has to move to and from fiat. This problem is 95% political, 5% technical. Unfortunately, because I prefer technical problems :-)

Doesn't lightning fix this? A coin joined UTXO opens a channel and the sats can move freely. Maybe not in larger amounts.
Until exchanges are forced to remove lightning support because it went from a niche nerd thing to large scale privacy. They'd delisted privacy coins for merely the *marketing* of them being used. And then might go after lightning developers holding them responsible for for North Korea deposit with the exact same arguments used against tornado cash. Also, GM :-)
Well MiCA (or was it the latest AML directive? 🤔) explicitly states that "any method that obscures the blockchain origin" (i forgot the exact terminology) is deemed illegal. It's so broad it'll affect Lightning, Liquid, etc
