I think the media greatly exaggerates the problem to begin with. While declining population is an issue, I think there's a massive mismanagement of education. People are going to school for the jobs that will no longer be around in 2 years, instead of being prepared to go into areas that actually need more humans. It's not that the birth rate alone is the issue, it's what people do with their time / education and how the incentives support or don't support the desired outcomes. Hint: they don't support it.

I agree that it’s only one component. And education paths need rerouted - but shifting blue collar doesn’t necessarily address the 1.08 TFR. Newfoundland is rooted in the fishery and minerals industries - we also have an unemployment rate higher than any other province.
