> yet every other form of taxation ends up with more marginal tax load on the bottom 98% ???? Do you mean the % of taxes paid by income class or the derivative of tax paid in terms of income made? In any case, if you want to make your nation's taxes more flat, go hard. Here we have a basic level here that doesn't start until a certain point, then the marginal tax increases with income, minus certain special cases. ie a flat tax would mean taxing the poorest right off the hop until 16,452$/y -- part time workers and those on OAS. Unless you mean something else (like flat tax with a heaviside function or something). I understand in the US the tax code is overly complex (mostly due to software companies who have made it that way on purpose) but here it's not *that* bad -- until about 2 years ago I was still doing it all on paper (and that only changed due to crypto shenanigans) - now i do it all on paper and then give it to an accountant to verify i did the hard parts right. Either way, a benefit of a flat tax, in the US context, would be making it more possible for americans to understand their own taxes, and to file them themselves -- which would have a benefit that a more regressive tax burden might offset from -- the exact social burden and benefits of such a policy is definitely beyond my scope as a foreigner. But here I don't see any benefit, personally -- there are problems I see with our tax code that exist, of course.
