This is literally not clear to me yet. Big Tech app stores sort of pretend they know. FOSS Nostr apps could make for less larping but the interoperability takes away a clear frame in which to analyze these things. I'm guessing the real answer to privacy for most of these apps will be "Whatever you want it to be".

It’s an interesting point. Who or what bears liability for privacy and TOS, generally? Assuming there is no single responsible party, then it’s caveat emptor. Or even better, the user (private key holder) owns their own.
