#[0] #[1] Let’s get this year long discussion started! I’m happy to talk and learn about anything so feel free to guide this any way you’re interested in. To start I’ll ask what drew you each to nostr? Why do you personally see a need for it?

I came to NOSTR because I think it marks the transition of Bitcoin from a discovery phase to a build out and adoption phase. It is a bit disappointing that bitcoiners had to build it them selves, rather than it be embraced. But I guess you can't expect monopolists to embrace something they can't control. I also think it's time has come. The enshittification of central platforms is clear. No one wants to share anything meaningful on them because they know they are being used commercially to sell attention. https://www.wired.com/story/tiktok-platforms-cory-doctorow/

Certainly an adoption phase. I wasn’t involved in bitcoin at all until I joined nostr. Good point and good article. One of the issues I have with social media is that it needs to be used; companies are motivated to keep you on their platform for as much time as possible so they can sell more ads. They keep you on by constant entertainment. I wonder about the long term effects of this. How are people changing because they are constantly being entertained at no other cost than their time? Can social media serve a greater purpose than entertaining? Perhaps nostr can be built in a way that motivates connection. I wonder what a social media looks like when it isn’t built to be used constantly.
