**On a road traveled many times before, We came across an oily puppy that we couldn’t ignore. Scared and frightened, left all alone, She came to live with us in our family home.** **Two other dogs to help her fit in, A better life that she was ready to begin. She liked to chase lasers, shadows, and lights, With a passion and veracity of one that would start fights.** **But this puppy was gentle, kind, stubborn, but classy, So it only seemed fitting that we call this girl Sassy. With a plump, round body, small head, and skinny legs, Features that you would think came from some storybook creatures.** **Red, white, and black freckly coat she wears, Furry feet, curly long hair from her ears. This six-toed weirdo’s background left us puzzled indeed, But we accepted this unique creature, loved her, we agreed.** **When eyes, ears, skin, and stomach issues caused her grief, With grace and dignity, she battled these monsters to our relief. Nothing slowed this determined girl down with her life, Adventures like walks and truck rides she loved without strife.** **She loved unconditionally with no quarrel or complaint, Accepted the outcome of any adventure like a saint. At times she may have felt miserable, tired, and sad, But would give you that Sassy smile and convince you she was glad.** **One day a terrible battle would come Sassy’s way, A battle that had her loved ones in utter dismay. She pulled up her bootstraps to take this one on, But she hadn’t seen this type of monster and it was very strong.** **She gave it her all with all of her might, But her family stepped in, said this monster is too big to fight. Her pride was crushed but smiled anyway, And looked towards the sun, said, "I’m sorry I can’t stay."** **We accepted her defeat with great sorrow and pain, Didn’t want Sassy to fight this dreadful long brutal timeframe. She fought most of her short life, to tell you the truth, Our beloved companion, the one and only Miss Sassy Ruth.** **Her goofiness and love are what I will miss most, Barking at doorbells, or anything that moves, so let’s give a toast. To a wonderful oily puppy that we met on that day, She will truly be missed, never forgotten, I must say.** **We love you, Sassy.** image
