This small river which runs from the hills above Playa El Zonte to the Pacific, divides two sides of this seaside village.
Only a few years prior, the huts in the background were not there, an open field was the short cut from the 3rd entrance road and the path up to the highway where Mama Rosa's food stand began the evolution which is now Bitcoin Beach.
The village is growing and changing fast. While I'm very happy for the locals as it brings employment and opportunity, I lament the hidden gem of the past where surf bums and adventurous globetrotters dotted the beaches and dirt roads.
If you haven't been to El Zonte prior, book a trip soon before the coast resembles the Mayan Riviera of the Yucatan.
