Thinking about allowing ZEUS Pay users to optionally disable zap receipts. This means you can accept money for your posts on Nostr, but the service doesn't publish the events so they don't show up for everyone to see in their clients. What do you think? Is this a cool option for privacy conscious users, or does this ruin all the fun and spoil the Nostr UX?

yes! This is why i added allowsNostr, so you could turn zaps on and off.
That's for sender side, not receiver side. Our service would block zap receipts even if you were sent a public zap.

It should definitely be an option.
In the sender app, will it still look exactly the same as if the zap was sent? I would prefer for it to look the same. Part of the fun of sending zaps is seeing them actually show up. Even if this is just for me, because only I know about it.

Private 'zaps' should be Bolt 12 with optional async recieve service (i.e. Lexe wallet).
It's a good option to have, for sure. Since Nostr is out in the open and public, people should always keep that in mind when zapping, and vice versa even participating in zaps. But having the option for more privacy is always nice.
I have a theory that this would be beneficial beyond the privacy conscious. Money as social signal gets to be really weird and uncomfortable for people who don't have much of an expendable budget.
I’ve implemented a spam threshold - anything below the amount, don’t broadcast the receipt. I did that to get rid of the nasty 1 sat spam zaps.
