Yeah, I agree. For Nostr zapping purposes, the ideal of self-custody is overkill. However, as Bitcoiners we should always be encouraging people to move toward the ideal if they are capable of it, and not settle for using IOUs if they don't have to.
I use a self-custody wallet hosted on my own Lightning node, but I am one of those who enjoys tinkering with things and resolving technical issues when they come up. Most people aren't like that. They just want something to work, and if it doesn't, they want to have someone else they can blame for it and hold them accountable.
