Humanity’s prevailing view of the future is “Today, only more so.” The tall oaks of progress are continually dropping acorns, but we focus on the next branch, twig and leaf. Meanwhile, we expect politics and good behaviour to solve our problems, thinking progress in human nature is just around the corner. The future will in some ways be just like today, and in some ways radically different. The only thing it won’t be for certain, is “Today, only more so.”
