I’m undecided about BIP 444 (I need to do the work to read it), but that op_return change in Core v30 was an unnecessary risk for Bitcoin as money. What worries me most is that the Bitcoin community is not doing enough about it. V30 is now 12% of the network so it’s passed the critical 10% level meaning that on average most nodes are connected to a v30 node, so anonymous spam relayed by v30 nodes will likely make it through the network and be mined into a block. Knots has lost momentum at around 20% of the network. We need more Knots nodes and more people who refuse to upgrade old versions of Core to v30.
