What nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 said in the latest Bitcoin.Review pod really reasonated with me
Something along the lines of “if you make hardware wallet UX too easy, people will not grasp the importance of self-custody”
It was using a Coldcard for the first time that I realized that this was serious business.
Make it too seamless and people won’t differentiate between self-custody and holding their wealth in an exchange wallet.

This is subjective to each person’s preferences
I have not heard the rest of the case for that point but it sounds highly copium.
I think it comes down to user preference but for me the initial complexity of signing an airgaped transaction made me want to understand more about the different treath models and trade-offs of different HWWs
Absolutely! Just talking about my personal experience. To me, the complexity made my research more about self-custody and appreciate the self sovereignty of it
Yea lean into the ceremony of it all. Along those lines, nostr:npub1az9xj85cmxv8e9j9y80lvqp97crsqdu2fpu3srwthd99qfu9qsgstam8y8 can we have a feature that requires a drop of the owners blood to unlock the cold card. It would only be valid however if submitted along with a specific audio signature in the background corresponding to some very loud tribal drumming
You sir, have a pretty good imagination 😂
Taking notes.
Also, I am not saying it HAS to be complicated, but it SHOULD portray the importance of each step with transparency without hiding stuff in black boxe devices. It think there’s an in-between here that is very hard to achieve
A banshee style scream if concurrent with the drumming would equate to a passphrase, unlocking a different path in the HD wallet depending on pitch timber timing ect. Lots of fertile ground here
💯
I was at an event today and a CFA said “Bitcoin and Cyrpto? They’re the same thing? I dunno?”
So these self custody questions are maybe still a bit downstream.
using a graphical interface to access nostr is making you miss the importance of it. Use nak to participate in the network to truly grasp it.
While at it, maybe lets just stop with the nonsense of operating systems, you get bios and a system prompt, then program the fuck out of it to grasp the significance of the invention of computers and its importance.
This is the biggest possible copium and CC cult apologist rhetoric I've heard in a long time.
See, this is once again viewing it in a very black or white way.
I’m not saying everyone should use a Coldcard, but I think it is important to highlight the importance of self-custody which, IN MY CASE, happened when going through setting up an airgaped wallet and signing my first transaction.
Trade-offs are a thing, UX is improving, hopefully a perfect solution comes along at some point but for now, it doesn’t exist
Oh yes, we are definitely miles and miles away from mainstream adoption of self-custody.
I honestly don’t think it even happens for most people which is something I’m battling with accepting
Also, people aren’t handling life savings on NOSTR. I can accept much more compromises and trade-offs from my NOSTR client than from my HWW
