I think it's slightly more nuanced. If you describe a job as slaving away to get by and don't starve vs contributing to society and making the world a better place the latter sounds much more intriguing. It's not that I don't think all these other things matter but they are not going to fill up your entire day for the rest of your life. However i do agree that there could be more focus on those parts for sure.
