This has been my big reason for keeping my ThinkPad so long. I use my laptop A LOT. The keyboard and screen matter to me. The trackpad too. Keyboard is usually my biggest issue. The TP has spoiled me. I'm not really a guy who can stay pinned to a desktop. I may build one anyway and remote in locally from my TP if I need to.

Unfortunately, companies like Framework are sort of trapped. They don't have the purchasing or production power to lower costs a lot, and they need people to buy products to iterate. I've always thought of it as an investment in the future I want more than the perfect product. I think that's the only way to not be disappointed. Apple prices doesnt mean it'll be Apple quality from a company that size. Having that expectation is a huge mistake. Few want to hear that they're spending 3k for an ideology, but that's kind of what they're selling right now. Even System76 has been around for I think a couple decades now and their laptops are still shit, in my opinion. Their in house stuff has improved a lot though. Great keyboards. Desktops look nice. Framework will probably get better if people keep supporting them
You can't attribute the full price of the Framework to ideology, only the marginal cost from the computer you would have bought instead. Fair warning, this thinking will cause you to buy more things that cost more but have questionable quirks compared to cheaper things... He posted from his GrapheneOS phone to his paid nostr relays. Maybe I'm just rationalizing to myself in public. My current laptop is on its last legs and the framework looks pretty sweet.
