What should "Nostr" be focusing on rn?

Don’t ask me, I am not Nostr dev or Nostr specialist. I’ve merely spent a ton of time trying to support it

I guess because the problems arise when a client tries to be #theNostr instead of part of it. Clients should focus like you say, while still maintaining cross operability between them and facilitating users agency.. IMHO.

True. I cringe every time I see a "what Nostr needs" post or "how to attract moar users." If your normie friends aren't here yet, don't worry. Several jurisdictions are giving them plenty of reasons to not want to be anywhere else.

You're absolutely right. I can offer you my help. But first, other priorities. First, make sure my acquaintances don't have to see that nonsense, junk, and porn. And make sure they stay longer than two months. I don't need all that spam and trash. And I don't have to be friends with everyone. If my friends are driven away by trash, nonsense, and, of course, lies, I'm so happy with what happened this year. Incorrect. The nostr protocol can literally be anything and everything. In fact, I hope it will be so in the future. What we have is, yet again, the same push that has been plaguing humanity since the beginning of time: centralization and accumulation of influence, which is then bent towards nefarious ends. The struggle playing out, that you've noticed, is the same struggle mankind has had, and yet, most these days are very ill-equipped to come out on top. I know most people would reject "religious" framing, but, it is, inevitable that only the people who are aligned with The Truth can have the correct time preference needed and the mental and moral framework to comprehend how to build an entirely new infrastructure that can underpin true freedom of information without the fetters of centralization, "influence peddling," and gross manipulation. (For the record, as a follower of Christ, it is my faith and hope that Jesus is the real, unabrogated, uninterrupted, and eternal Truth, not some mere classical logical puzzle or gnostic/pharmacological/occult nonsense. Basically, if your perspective isn't that of building heaven here on earth, and expecting your works to build and grow and last literally forever, you don't have the right perspective to vs doing anything consequential. I am aware that many would take umbrage to all of my claims in this aside, but, I literally could not care less since everyone, IMO, needs Jesus and nothing and no one else can save us from ourselves and the hasty destruction we tend to invite on ourselves without The Best Guide leading the way.)

It’s a protocol given users the control of their notes. Anything else could or couldn’t be shamed. Nostr as core is working properly.

I'm taking on a very dichotomous view of things lately, in the strangest of manners. I mostly think that you were asking the wrong question. It isn't the end of the world, but! How we orient ourselves is certainly the most important thing. IMO. (And who wants to listen to a random beaver on the internet, or, in this case, TNP. Heh.)

So what needs to be the focus? It seems most of the complaints revolve around content not the protocal, and how do you prevent low quality content or even outright spam/porn without putting some level of censorship in place? It also becomes a game of whack-a-mole. Those banned just create new accounts, how can you stop that without some central body collecting kyc and making the decision who is worthy? If the issue is low quality clients or relays, then perhaps some sort of community rating system and allow for clients to autoblock based on those ratings, but that is still subject to manipulation (look at Google reviews). In the end you are responsible for your own feed and understand that you will most likely see content you would rather not. My feed so far seems to be fairly "clean" it is a bit heavy on Bitcoin topics but that is to be expected, outright spam does not bother me all that much, and any porn gets blocked as I see it. There is also nothing to stop anyone from forming there own walled off community that does implement strict censorship, create there own relay that autoblocks, restrict clients, inspect follow lists, go crazy, but that is not a "nostr" the protocal issue.
