I find that writing a solid AGENTS.md (or CLAUDE.md) with clear guidelines helps controlling the behaviour of the coding agent.

That's not the problem. The problem is that they often oversee superior logic and patterns and just do something like a junior programmer.
They often don't understand, for instance, that Thing A is essentially the same as Thing B, in a completely different folder, so that they could be merged.
