Bitcoin Arithmetic #5 – How Do the Rules Stop Cheating?
Imagine you have one cookie. If you eat it, it’s gone. You can’t give it to two friends at the same time. But with computers, people could copy things, like making two cookies from one. That’s cheating! Satoshi’s rules stop this. Every time someone spends Bitcoin, it’s written in the public notebook (the blockchain). Everyone checks the notebook to make sure the same Bitcoin isn’t used twice. If someone tries to cheat, the network says “Nope! That’s not real.” This is why Bitcoin is honest money.
