Bitcoin Arithmetic #2 – The Problem of Double Spending
Imagine you have one toy car. You can give it to your friend, but then you don’t have it anymore. That makes sense.
But with computers, things are tricky. If you have a picture of a toy car, you can copy it many times. You could send the same picture to ten friends, and everyone thinks they got the “real” car.
Money can’t work like that. If you spend the same coin twice, it’s called double spending.
Before Bitcoin, no one knew how to stop this problem without using a bank. Satoshi’s white paper showed the world how.
