Hillary won the popular vote by ~3M votes, did their votes matter?
I keep pushing back on this take because the US wasn’t designed to be a direct democracy and there are multiple features of the system which are implemented specifically to make your vote not carry influence
Fun fact: the first presidential election with regular citizens voting wasn’t until the 1820s, and had less than 500k votes

They mattered to the extent they got electoral college votes. I am not arguing that the US is or should be a democracy. All I am saying is that voting matters (obviously). I am not saying it solves every problem.
