Apple Photos is why I left graphene and came back to iOS, more or less. The whole import work, and no convincing open source alternative… I just don’t have time and don’t see a serious risk to family photos. Self-hosting is time consuming, or was. Immich didn’t exist at the time though. What’s your least favorite part of Immich so far? Are you running on a dedicated home server?
