Well, a bit more actually. Trade volume across the border is huge. There wouldn’t be trade if it weren’t mutually beneficial. So, yeah, trying to force the benefit of trade more to one side or another will make for winners and losers out of the citizens on each side. Won’t matter to me if thousands of families lose their homes in NY or Minnesota or Ontario…but it’ll matter to somebody.
Probably. But there will be pain for many. On both sides. But then again, if non-market forces have picked winners and losers, what difference does it make if new winners and losers get chosen by new non-market forces.
