Reposting this with hashtags: #btc #bitcoin #plebchain +++ A friend asked me, “what happens if we get to a point where energy is essentially free and limitless. how would this effect your btc world?” My response: So it’s: “infinity = mc2” …? How do you allocate the matter you apply that energy to? How do you allocate the infinite matter you create? How do you coordinate any activity at all? What if one person wants to point their infinite energy beam in a direction that pushes the planet toward the sun? What if another person wants to point their beam the opposite direction and steer us away from the Sun? How do we steer the rocket ship you just invented if everyone has free unlimited energy? A world approaching free unlimited energy, is in effect a world where nothing is scare - since if you have matter and can apply infinite amounts of energy to it, you could make it anything you want. In this scenario, BTC would represent the only limited thing on earth, as to run code that said otherwise would move you off consensus and you would simply hard fork your chain. BTC’s difficulty adjustment ensures that the issuance rate and block time stays consistent, even if near infinite amounts of energy are spent to find the next nonce (speed up the issuance). You cannot speed up the issuance of the 21 million BTC, even if you mine harder. So, we have a world of infinite energy and matter… what remains limited? Time. And BTC.

Yes, but what would the point of having just one scarce resource in an otherwise unlimited universe be? If each of us had a universal replicator with unlimited power, why would you need to buy something from someone else? Just because something is scarce doesn't mean it will always have value. The Value of Bitcoin will always be 1 Bitcoin = 1 Bitcoin!
