Especially when professors are allowed to write their own textbooks and then force their students to buy the textbook they wrote for $300. It should be a crime.

I don't think it should be a crime, but it raises the question of "what is your tuition paying for" when you sign up for a class you'd think the necessary educational materials would be part of the tuition.
That textbook scam is one of the most predatory things in higher education.
Gates-funded academia perpetuates textbook racket, milking students dry, with beneficiaries like Pearson's CEO Andy Bird pocketing millions.
