I think many might be… But they inherited a religion rather than learning and deeply implementing a practice. So looking deeper and questioning these things doesn’t feel like intellect to them, but betrayal and risking hellfire

If you look at the various madhhabs, the Wahhabi/Salafi come from the Hanbali school of “thought” which prohibits reason. If you dare using reason, they'll accuse you of being a Mu'tazila.
But if you don't use reason, you let someone else think for you.
I don't know how they reconcile this idea. They keep telling me we have to listen to the scholars.
Don't the scholars use reason? What is going on?
