Unnecessary expense when I have several computers lying around the house doing nothing! Also, when I looked into it, they didn't support an external drive to store the blocks directory either, which for was a non-negotiable thing to run my own node.

Totally feel you on that! Why drop cash when you've got a bunch of idle machines at home? ๐
And yeah, no external drive support is a major buzzkill for running your own node. Gotta have that storage game on point! ๐ฏ
You can flash StartOS (which is just a Linux distro) for free to any of those computers. Furthermore, you can flash StartOS to the internal drive on the computer, then attach an external drive for all the service data, which naturally includes the blockchain if you choose to run Bitcoin.
