The Iranian Minister of Energy also claims that these facilities consume a massive amount of energy and destabilize the national power grid. The authorities have stepped up their crackdown on illegal activities. In Tehran province alone, 104 clandestine mining operations have been shut down and 1,465 machines seized, equivalent to the electricity consumption of nearly 10,000 households.
