I started a challenge more than a month ago to do 100 pushups a day.
To make it progressive, I move from wall pushup, table pushup, to normal pushups. Eventually to reach one handed wall stand pushup.
When I reach 50 pushup / set, I move to the next level starting from 10 / set.
It is working in a sense, that I am progressing, and more pushups are easier over time.
To combat skipping one day ruining the strike, and killing motivation, I made the following rule:
It is okay to skip a day, but the pushups have to be done for that day to keep the strike.
This way, it is not a big deal if I miss one day, but also I have a harder time, because I have to do more of them later...
