Interesting huh? The Republicans were still horribly wrong of course, believing in the Hobbesian myth of government. Lincoln's war for maintaining the union was unjustified and the whole slavery thing was a bunch of phony virtue signalling to try to make it look justified and like the war for state power was somehow heroic.

Slavery in the south was going to die out soon anyway. And it is never justified to initiate aggressive conflicts in the name of ending other aggressions. There is always a better way.
