It is so interesting that we have a weird relationship with variable rewards and blackjack/slot-machine effect.
Many apps overuse this human weakness and tries to create addictive behaviour with variable rewards. e.g.: social media
If you are building ethically, like I do, you cannot overuse it, otherwise you make your user an addict.
Also matters what those rewards are.
The worst thing that marketing companies, other companies and society in general pushes is you will be happy when an external thing happens. (Of course the external thing is what they sell.) So they try to make addicted to their products through different psychological tricks. Unethical at least.
