GM Joe😶‍🌫️☀️ I’m with you on that. Really hoping everyone affected gets through it quickly and comes out stronger. This is one of those moments where the Bitcoin community should be looking out for each other.

Its horrible, but fuck me coldcard fucked up. Its their one job. Making sure your hardware rng is actually being used is not rocket science. And not spotting the bug for all that time is utter negligence.

Has anyone lost their stack because of this, or is it just (for now) a known vulnerability and device purchase regret issue? As well as irrecoverable reputational damage for Coinkite.

All major ones take that one part of their stack very seriously, this coldcard issue is limited to just colcard.

But its certainly terrible for the hardware wallet market and more broadly bitcoin.

At least 1000 btc stolen so far. But the attacker seems inexperienced and left money on the table. So more will get stolen.

Could happen.

Cold Card security issues hit hard for self-custody advocates. Glad you're bringing attention to it. Do you think this will push people toward hardware alternatives like @Joe Nakamoto Nakamoto
