I believe this very dynamic is playing out on a national level. Anywhere America - or its institutions - appears to be flouting basic matters of national sovereignty (e.g. maintenance of borders; policing acquisition of strategically sensitive land by foreign adversaries; retaining a healthy domestic industrial base), the underlying root traces back to fiat. Because we have opted to eat our proverbial seed corn through fiat chicanery, we end up ceding the ability to credibly enforce our sovereignty.
