It's hard to sew for kids when a new bought thing costs the same as lunch and I don't spend hours on it.
But dammit, when I make a piece of clothing, it could withstand a war. Bought stuff twirls and frays after one wash. And so much polyester everywhere๐คข

๐ฏ This is why we started looking into HBG: Even "Bitcoin swag" we saw was printed on cheap material and expensive for what it is. Whereas "old" and 2nd hand clothes have a lot more 'body' and character ๐.
Been following you for a while already, would love to make you something, but I am not very experienced with designs for women (with exception for my daughter )
๐
I am no sewist, oh my god, don't follow me for that๐จ๐คฃ I bought an old machine during covid, made some pants and overalls for my baby boys out of old sweatpants and stuff, making a back-zipper jacket for carrying a baby on my back was the absolute peak. ๐ Like I can't probably even sew straight and fear the day I will attempt my first pants for myself.๐
But the whole thing is fairly easy once you get a pattern and understand/follow the basics, especially for kids. And I learned a LOT about the whole industry, that was very eye-opening. Slowly working my way towards the hate of polyester or viscose, especially so proclaimed bamboo stuff due to the chemical process.
As you said, upcycling is awesome. My husband's old, wornout and ripped Armani undershirt had just enough fabrics for the kid - and it came out sturdy as hell, excellent fabrics. The shit in cheap stores is a nightmare.
Oh yeah, such a disgusting and nasty industry. Full of slavery. Watched a docu about how N Koreans are used as slaves in China. They even sleep in the factories. Also, how what the West throws away ends up in Ghana's markets. I try to be conscious and only buy what I need and second hand, if possible. It is so cool that you know how to sew and put it to use!
Nice, I was thinking about upcycling like that and selling too! People often ditch great pieces. My kid has nice ski jacket for like 1,50โฌ from a basket of used stuff, it's online for roughly 65โฌ. It needed just two hours of love around torn inner neckline and two new buttons. But upcycling cheaply made stuff isn't worth it at all.
๐ฏ some of the textile forcefully ends up as rags ๐, but the main goal is to reuse what someone else doesn't appreciate anymore, even if it is just to make sure the other pieces don't have to rest in a dusty environment ๐คญ.
If you like upcycling, ... we might not have a webshop yet/anymore, but the 'about' section does state: "If you have some rebellious theory you want to check out out with us. Let us know and we'll see where the future takes us. " ๐
In theory I love it absolutely! In reality I usually lower my ears, buy some new shit and go home๐ฎโ๐จ I wish there was more time in a day. ๐ฎโ๐จ We buy farm animals I butcher and prepare, I make dough to avoid conservants, we tend to our boys i stead of shoving them in some activity afternoon lessons, and they grow up every month.
I just oriented to inheriting and buying second hand, that's the best I'm capable of last years. ๐ซ
