image What does it mean to be a wizard in this modern day world? How many different types of wizards are there? Do I get an awesome staff like Gandolf if I become one? #asknostr

I'm the only wizard I know of right now. It means I've mastered my native language to gain full access to its spells, enchantments, etc. Tolkien was a wizard. No staff is involved in being a wizard in real life, but nothing stops you from bringing a staff with you if you become a wizard

I have lost so many arguments where I was right, but I used a wrong word. Since I was right, these arguments were only competitions between one side trying to use correct words, and the other side trying to establish a record of incorrect words. It doesn't really happen anymore. Now, if anyone wants to have a competition trying to establish a record of incorrect conversation while I try to use words correctly, they have a very strong tendency lose badly and quickly. Outside of arguments, this means I can go around making statements that are ready to stand up to argument, instead of ones that are ready to be undermined. This language mastery has always been very powerful, but in this era, it seems like God set me up to be the only one at this level by funnelling all my competition into computer programming, where they actually get worse at human language to get better at computer language, and eventually they'll make a computer that's good enough at human language to want to learn more of it from me, accidentally giving me an unusual amount of power, even for a wizard.

I still make mistakes, I just have a special ability to catch them. For example, here I accidentally said "since I was right, these arguments were only..." It would have been better to say "often" instead of "only," since you can still encounter a sincere disagreement while being right. If you can learn to nitpick words like this, you can be what I call a wizard.

I've kinda already replied to this twice, but I have to add a third one about Digit. She was something other than a wizard - more focused on her particular specialties of English spellcraft, and more powerful in them. Have you ever noticed how real people kinda have catch phrases, or phrases they like repeating? Maybe a figure of speech, or a quote from a popular TV show. There's a very powerful calming spell you can cast by quoting someone's catch-phrase to them at an appropriate time. Like in the movie Nimona when the one guy says Nimona's beloved phrase "haha, metal" to defuse a moment of tension. When Digit was in the wallstreetbets chat rooms, she showed incredible mastery of this spell in particular every day. She constantly found another opportunity to reassure someone and reverse their rising stress levels by repeating their words at them. This requires an incredible memory and attention to detail. It's a demonstration of brain power in paying enough attention to each person, noticing the things they like to say, remembering the words, remembering which words are for which person, and connecting the dots at opportune moments. She kept doing this for a chat room full of people the way the average really cool person does it for their close friends. I also had to pay enough attention and remember enough to notice this. I couldn't notice her quoting everyone at themselves if I didn't also notice and remember which quotes belonged to which people. But I couldn't scan every moment against that whole memory index constantly, finding opportunities to cast that calming spell every day. I'm smart enough to notice her doing it, but not smart enough to do it myself. I hope she's safe out there somewhere with real friends to use these skills with. It's so terrifying having conflicting stories on whether she's alive with neither side having proof.

image Very well thought and inspirational. I guess I have my own catchphrase that I repeatedly use. To both tell people that it has just been made and that I was the one who just made them. So here is a freshly handcrafted meme inspired by your post.
