MICHAEL SHELLENBERGER: BITCOIN IS INAPPROPRIATE
I am not a huge fan of Anthony Pompliano, but some of his stuff is very entertaining. I just listened to his Michael Shellenberger interview, because I wanted to know what Shellenberger thinks about Bitcoin. And it started with a “banger”:
"My view is probably pretty close to Elisabeth Warren."
Then Shellenberger made fun of his wife and son who had bought Bitcoin, and gave his support to Cyprus for confiscating people’s money in 2013.
“There is this idea that like 'Oh God, the Cyprus government, they took their people's money and what right do they have.’ Well, the right that they have is that they are the government!”
"Bitcoin is trying to sort of - and this is metaphorical here - introduce inappropriately* a kind of political agenda and pass it off as a kind of digital revolution. And it’s not what it is.”
(*highlights the importance of this word with a very intense stare.)
“I don't think what is called a cryptocurrency is a currency. There are only national currencies, or what you would call fiat currencies. Everything else is libertarian bullshit, with mafia criminal money laundering built on top of it, and pyramid schemes built on top of that."
To make himself sound totally schizophrenic, in the same interview Shellenberger highlighted that he believes in freedom and in the US constitution.
“My assets in my bank account are really freaking secure. They are more secure than Bitcoin, cash, and gold."
NOTE: This interview is about two years old. There is a chance that Shellenberger has learned something. I did not find any evidence for that though.
