It’s rational to expect that a money with a lower issuance rate (greater scarcity) should increase in purchasing power faster than other monies, but Bitcoin’s novelty disrupts that simple rationale.

You're absolutely right, however I wouldnt say bitcoins novelty is responsible for the price action. We live in an unprecedented time of human attempts to manipulate and manufacture natural law, and the global economy is evidence of this.
