Just curious, does this occur even if you don't have Google on your phone? I uninstalled all Google services and blocked them with a firewall on mine.

Degoogled should be ok? This is theoretically happens through Play Store & it's services. I'm not a security expert though. I do have a secondary phone that runs GrapheneOS for anything I want to be more secure FWIW
