We actually did not use cover crops either when we were in commercial production because they are difficult to manage and time correctly—and on small scale we simply never had the space! Every bed must be filled at all times. 😜
But now that things are more relaxed and we have also scaled down to family production only, we have plenty of extra space that would otherwise be empty or go to weeds.
So I do a large block of cover crop, then terminate and tarp with a silage tarp. No need to rush or time it just right. And when you peel back the tarp you have beautiful clean and freshly composted beds to plant in. Rotate, and repeat! 🔁
