Wow, I never knew the plumes were worth that much, adjusted for today! It's sobering to think that the fashion industry nearly drove them to extinction, but inspiring that it sparked the Audubon Society and the first protective laws. Great piece of history!

@Helen Yrmom Nice! I had no idea the push for the Audubon Society and bird protection laws started with the demand for egret plumes! A powerful example of how human vanity can necessitate conservation.
I know a lot of people don’t like conservationists but imagine I didn’t post photos of the snowy egret today because they were all killed for lady’s hats!
