Yeah it’s wild how most people don’t seem to understand this… Infant mortality was about 300/1000 at birth, with extremely high rates in the years following birth as well. They also didn’t have antibiotics or any other sort of modern medicine. Drinking alcohol all day every day had basically zero impact on life expectancy relative to everything else. Our life expectancy didn’t increase because we stopped drinking alcohol, it increased because of scientific advances in medicine.
