Nobody came to my first #BitcoinWalks in Munich. So my dog Lilly and I went alone. It was wonderful. We had everything we needed: fresh air, the river, trees, sky – and time to simply enjoy it. Last Saturday, two years and almost 100 walks later, we were alone again for the first time. Equally wonderful. I love walking with other Bitcoiners – discussing topics close to our hearts, building community, meeting new faces. But there's something special about the solitude with my dog. More stillness, more intensity. On this walk I thought about arguments for preserving #cash. One key reason: privacy. Cash leaves no digital traces. No company or authority knows what I bought, how much, where, or when. We send our letters in envelopes, encrypt our emails and oppose chat control. – yet we expose our consumption habits completely, even though they reveal incredibly much about us. Oops, that was two weeks ago and I forgot to hit the post button. 😅 But it’s such a lovely memory … I’ll post it anyway. - - - - - BitcoinWalk Munich last Saturday — every Sat 🚶🏻‍♀️🐕☀️ 33°C, bright sunshine and a beautiful route along the Isar. My personal highlight? A tiny navigation mistake with a big upside. 😄 After taking a wrong turn on our way to the beer garden, another BitcoinWalker and I decided not to walk back — we simply jumped into a side arm of the Isar and let the current carry us towards our destination. 🌊 But of course, there was plenty to talk about too: 🔐 The Coldcard incident A major wake-up call for the Bitcoin community: even with self-custody and a hardware wallet, there is no such thing as absolute security. A firmware bug from 2021 resulted in weak randomness for affected devices, allowing attackers to derive vulnerable seeds and steal more than 1,800 BTC – without ever having physical access to the devices. ⚡️ Blackouts & preparing for crises How realistic is the risk of a nationwide blackout? Should we stock up on supplies? And what does being prepared really mean? Maybe resilience is about much more than food and emergency supplies: physical fitness, mental strength, strong relationships and the ability to take responsibility for ourselves. ☀️ Sunny #BitcoinWalk on Saturday, with a bit of sightseeing on top! We passed Munich's surfer hotspot at Haus der Kunst, a second Eisbach wave, Friedensengel, and the Maximiliansanlagen before ending up at Hofbräukeller. 🚶🏻‍♀️🐕🌳 We also tried paying with #Bitcoin at Fräulein Grüneis – no luck. The POS device was down, and nobody could tell us when it'd be back. Ironically, the trendy kiosk doesn't take cash either, so we ended up paying by card. Not exactly what most Bitcoiners want to hear. 😅 My motto: cash or Bitcoin. We ended the walk in a shady beer garden and agreed the Isar is much nicer without the tourist crowds – so next time we're heading further upstream. Thanks to everyone who came out! What a beautiful #BitcoinWalk in Munich this morning! 🐕☀️ Due to the heat, we moved our weekly walk to 8:30 AM – and despite the early hour, a loyal crew showed up. 🙌🏼 We strolled through the Maximiliansanlagen, with a refreshing Isar break (for my dog 🐾) and a longer stop at a café. Great conversations as always! Two topics dominated today: 🎥 The @npub1tuxk...ycn0 watch party next Saturday in Munich – screening „The Six Billion Dollar Man“, Eugene Jarecki’s documentary about #WikiLeaks and Julian Assange. A film with special meaning for the Bitcoin community: when WikiLeaks was cut off from PayPal, Visa, and Mastercard, Bitcoin stepped in. The worldwide Bitcoin premiere is June 27. ✈️ And of course @npub167n5...zu3r – which blew me away again this year. The program was excellent, but it’s really about the people. Last Saturday’s #BitcoinWalk in #Munich started with some bad news: The Telegram account of Endo, the BitcoinWalk founder got hacked – compromising BitcoinWalk groups around the world that he had created. Shortly after the hack, I was kicked out of my own group. Over 100 members, 1.5 years of chats, pictures and memories – gone. “Not your keys, not your coins” applies to identity too. 🔐 Some BitcoinWalk guides have now moved to #Flotilla, an app built on the #Nostr protocol. Censorship-resistant by design. 🤙🏼 During our walk along the river Isar, we also discussed a bigger question: how do we reach younger generations with #Bitcoin? Retirement plans and savings accounts don’t exactly excite Gen Z. Yet inflation keeps eating away at purchasing power, building wealth is getting harder, and trust in pension systems is fading. That’s where Bitcoin may matter most – not as speculation, but as a tool for financial self-sovereignty. No bank, no financial advisor, no permission needed. After the walk, we planned our next adventures, especially @npub167n5...zu3r. From June 11–13, Prague will once again become Europe’s Bitcoin hotspot with 10,000+ attendees, 200+ speakers and Europe’s biggest Bitcoin-only expo. Last Saturday’s #BitcoinWalk in #Munich turned into much more than a conversation about Bitcoin. Starting with the question of whether geopolitically driven kerosene shortages could soon ruin summer holidays for many Germans, we ended up discussing social tension, trust in institutions, and what makes people take to the streets. At some point, “The Fourth Turning” by William Strauss and Neil Howe came up, alongside The Sovereign Individual, a near-cult classic among Bitcoiners.
