According to local Mauritian sources, units of the Malian Armed Forces crossed the border to arrest a terrorist leader and five of his lieutenants.
During the operation the targeted terrorist (identified unknown) was apprehended.
After the withdrawal of Malian units, the Mauritanian army quickly deployed its forces in the area (Melgué) reinforcements were even sent to the place.
Some locals are shocked by the situation and call the incident a violation of the territorial integrity of Mauritania.
Local administrative authorities have been on site to assess the situation and collect initial information.
An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.
At the moment the FAMA General Staff refuses to comment.
