🇵🇪 Peru’s Congress voted 75–24 to remove interim President José Jerí after just four months in office, ousting him as both head of state and President of Congress in a censure motion tied to undisclosed meetings with Chinese businessmen, the Associated Press reports.
The affair, dubbed “Chifagate,” centers on clandestine meetings that were not logged as required by law, including with an executive holding active government contracts, fueling allegations of influence peddling.
Jerí, a right-wing “Somos Perú” leader who champions economic liberalism and private investment, had enjoyed support from the US since taking office in October 2025 after Dina Boluarte’s removal. Jeri also backed US military operations in Venezuela. His downfall marks the ninth presidential change in less than a decade, highlighting Peru’s chronic political instability as it heads to general elections on April 12.
Yesterday, in the town of southern Lebanese village of Tallusa, martyr Ahmad Tirmis (62 years old) was on a family visit. He sat with his wife in her brother’s home. The sound of a drone in the sky, then a second drone. He had barely entered to sit down when his phone rang. Ahmad answered. A cold, clear voice came through: “Is this Ahmad Tirmis?” He replied yes, and the caller informed him: “This is the Israeli army, Ahmad. Do you want to die—you and those with you… or just you?” He answered immediately: “Just me.”
He hung up the phone. His face changed. His wife’s brother, Salim, looked at him and asked: “What happened, Ahmad?” He said it with calm resolve: “It’s the Israelis. Get up, leave, and leave me here. They’re saying either you die with me… or I die alone.”
He didn’t beg. He didn’t scream. He asked them to leave, to save themselves, to let him face his fate alone. They refused at first and told him they wouldn’t leave him, that they would die with him. He calmed them, then convinced them to go.
For a moment, he didn’t realize he wasn’t in his own home. Then he did. He didn’t want the death to be in a house that wasn’t his. He decided to take the death away from them. He asked them to stay so he could leave. He bid them farewell. He got into his car. He started the engine and drove away from the house, then parked his car. Seconds passed, and the drone fired two missiles.
The car burned. Ahmad’s body was scattered. It burned… but his story remains. He is one of the heroes of our time.
Ahmad had bid farewell to his son Hassan, a martyr, two years earlier. Then he saw him in a dream about a year ago, telling him they would meet in the month of February. He told his son’s wife about it, and she replied jokingly: “So the rest of the war is after a year?! Maybe after five years.” He told her that his son had specified next February. Someone filmed him as he repeated that he would be martyred in the month of February, and today the people of his town began circulating that video, just as they circulated the WhatsApp conversation.
No one knows what a person feels when they receive a call informing them of the appointed time of their death. No one knows how life is weighed in seconds, then asked to choose: to die alone… or to die with loved ones. What heart can bear a call that forces a choice between the manner of death and parting from loved ones? What resilience, what courage, what selflessness do these people carry to even stand on their feet in such a moment?
Before Ahmad, another young man was driving his car with his wife beside him. He received the same call. He stopped the car. He let his wife out. He moved her away. Then he went alone toward the missile.
🇷🇺 Russia’s crude oil exports have continued to rise despite Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian refineries, Bloomberg reports.
In February, Ukrainian UAVs struck oil facilities in Volgograd and Ukhta, as well as the Ilsky refinery in Kuban. According to the agency’s estimates, Russia exported an average of 3.39 million barrels of crude per day in the first half of February — marking the fourth straight week of growth.

🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran and Washington have reached an understanding on main principles during today's talks in Geneva.
There has been good developments compared to last round.
Two parties will work on potential agreement documents and exchange them. This does not mean that we will reach an agreement soon but the path has started.
I can say compared to the last round we’ve had very serious discussions and there was a constructive atmosphere where we exchanged our point of view.
Those ideas were discussed and we came to some agreements and some main principles. And based on those principles, we will eventually draft a document… We are hopeful we can achieve this.
When we reach the stage of drafting a document, naturally the process will slow down.
Police are investigating the death as a suicide, with pills found at the scene.

First and foremost the objective of the bill aims to establish clear and predictable rules, reduce litigation opening up better investments in Argentina in theory, create more dynamic and modern frameworks for productivity and ease the ability to create formal employment across the board.

Hiring and Firing is easier
The law makes it both easier to hire part time workers and fire people as well. This is an important point in understanding the possible abuses of the law. In the past hiring was slow because there was a complex legal requirement that employers must provide high severance packages. It lead to most Argentinians working off the books and outside legal framework of taxation.
Extension of the standard workday
Employers have the option to extend a legal workday to 12 hours instead of 8 provided (and this parts important), the employee and employer agrees on work hours schedule and compensation for extra hours outside of the normal work week hours. More on this later.
New limits on the ability to Strike ( Union or individual )
The reform sets minimum requirements for services to continue during work stoppage or disagreements between the state and workers.

I will now go into a more detailed look at changes that allowed previous loopholes against employers
1.) Certain things are not included as severance or workers pay
Healthcare insurance, Equity through stocks, cellular and Internet services are no longer required to be paid by employer
Tips are also no longer considered defined as compensation
Performance bonuses are still considered compensation but is no longer legally enforced by the unions. It's no longer a right that a bonus needs to be paid by employers for extraordinary achievement for example.
This should a) reduce employment claims for underreporting wages b) narrow severance payments to reflect true wages c) restore greater flexibiy to employers to design compensation structures.
In the past lawyers of plaintiffs would extract greater severance pays from employers to it's maximum using these benefits
2.) Enabling wages in foreign currency
This change makes a common practice in Argentina now legal, by retaining and attracting workers formally by offering to pay in US dollars. Perhaps an important step towards dollarization of Argentina long term, a goal by the US in any case
3.) Deregulating vacation days
There used to be guaranteed statutory control over when an employee can take vacation days. This now defaults to agreement between employer and employee.
4.) Overtime
Overtime is now negotiable, including forms of payment and does not necessarily need the Unions approval
5.) Deregulating Remote work benefits
Covid laws were now repealed that benefited workers that can do certain jobs at home
The concerns and criticism of the laws:
In general the law strips power away from unions and gives power to private employers. Removing certain benefits that were ultimately being abused by some workers in general.
However there are serious concerns about the ability to hire someone easily as a part time worker and negotiating 12 hour work days. Theoretically an employee can hire 10 people instead of 6 full time workers with overtime. They all work 12 hours per day for the same cost of 6 workers for example and get more productivity and work hours without having to pay overtime
In the situations where there are overtime, employees may be compensated with other things besides money.
Other changes such as Foreign currency law gives more power to multi corporate organizations, the best jobs, best productivity and ultimately the best products will be by American and probably Israeli firms and institutions like Google, Amazon, Tesla and BlackRock like investments.
