Please, please, please, please for the love of God watch this interview and then zap @nat brunell @Adam Back too. 😁 He is articulating the big picture of what has been happening for the last six months more clearly than I've heard elsewhere. Adam may be one of the best experts on the issue of spam in the context of freedom in the digital domain. After all, he invented one of the most important technologies used in Bitcoin proof of work for exactly this purpose. And he touches on this a little bit in the interview. And though he ends up on the filters don't work side of the argument, which will bother those people on the other side, he does it with nuance and maturity. He doesn't mock the people who want to stop spam. He just points out why he thinks certain actions would be not only moot, but have second order effects that make the problem worse. I guess in part because I resonate with most of what Adam says here, and have for quite some time, but it's very difficult to communicate this in the conversation where there is so much shit being thrown back and forth. #core #knots #saga #slog Whole thing is gross. But here's the blind spot. Regular bitcoiners are not really concerned whether or not trolls represent them. They are concerned whether or not chaincode (core) represents them. And that's been the problem since day one. This is pretty amazing, too, honestly... Absolutely no awareness that he has been at the center of the fire from the beginning. Mercilessly mocking regular concerned Bitcoiners.

Looks to me like Nick Szabo's opinion on our favorite controversy is developing little by little and he's coming to what is an informed and nuanced opinion. So both sides are going to hate it to some extent. But I think the core people are going to dislike it more.

#knots #core So, us Bitcoiners are a diverse group, users, developers, maintainers, cypherpunks, cryptographers, business people, laser eyed number go up disciples. Shitcoiners, governments, companies, enemies... And unless you're blind, you are aware we are a bit at each other's throats at this moment. The so-called Bitcoin community has reached a fork (kind of a loaded word, isn't it?) in the road. And this is going to resolve one way or another. And hopefully peacefully. But there's something we should aim to do once the dust starts to settle. We need to take an honest look at ourselves and do a lessons learned from this event. I think a little of the vulnerable underbelly of our community, if you like, has been exposed. What did we do right? What did we do wrong? What could we have done better?

I think I like this one a little better.

One of the weird and sometimes hard to notice effect of this type of thing is the boiling frogs see this and they say something like, "Gosh, I can't believe this is happening here and there. What should we do? We don't want this to become the new normal. We don't want this to grow." But the reality is this is normal and this is where we are. It is a fully fanged dystopia.
